In December 2011, the U.S. granted the use of chimps in biomedical and behavioral research as only when necessary for human health. This doesn't solve the problem, but it puts us one step closer to a full ban on chimpanzee research. Please continue to sign if you haven't already!

Innocent chimpanzees are being harmed and killed due to the inhumane practice of animal laboratory testing. Chimps are used as test subjects in pharmaceutical labs to determine the effectiveness of drugs on humans. Most often the animals are euthanized after testing.

It's up to concerned citizens like you to fight for these chimps. Sign the petition below telling Congress to move quickly on passing legislation that would prevent chimpanzees from being used for invasive research.

Dear Rep. Edolphus Towns,

Because you have lobbied for the humane treatment of chimpanzees in the past, I am writing to ask that you continue to advocate for the safety of these creatures.

America's chimpanzees are suffering greatly as a result of the laboratory testing pharmaceutical companies are performing on them. Much like humans, chimps are capable of performing advanced physical activities as well as forming emotions such as love and sadness. They don't deserve to experience the pain and suffering the tests create.

If the chimpanzees don't suffer psychological or physical harm due to the testing, they are often euthanized anyway. The fact is laboratory testing almost certainly guarantees a very bleak future for the animal in question.

More and more pharmaceutical companies and educational institutions are choosing animal testing alternatives; the practice of using animals for lab research is quickly becoming obsolete. Please move forward with legislation that will ensure all great apes are given the equal chance to live out full, happy lives, safe from the possibility of an inhumane death.

Thank you for your time.
