Florida's manatees are in trouble and desperately need your help. Recently, the Florida Fish And Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWCC) voted to acknowledge amendments that would allow for the delisting of manatees from the endangered species list. Not only is this detrimental to an already low manatee population, but it also sets the standard for delisting other species with no scientific evidence to back it up.
If the manatees are pushed down on the endangered species list, measures could be taken that would further endanger the animals. Because the amendments were adopted, the FWCC is now reviewing the manatees' status and could delist them any day. If this happens, rules against high speed boating and other actions that harm the manatees could be thrown out.
Sign the petition asking Florida Governor Rick Scott to intervene and make sure the dwindling population of manatees is given the best chance of survival.
Dear Governor Scott,
I am writing to ask for your help in saving Florida's manatees. The Florida Fish And Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWCC) recently voted to adopt an amendment that would allow manatees to be delisted on the endangered species list (ESA).
This action was based in no scientific fact and could carry extreme implications for the future of the species. Florida's manatees are already facing endangerment, and if they are delisted, it would open the door for people to strike down high-speed boating laws that protect the manatees, among other detrimental effects.
The FWCC should know better. You are now one of the manatees' last hopes for survival. Please override FWCC's vote and keep manatees where there are on the ESA. Their future depends on it.
Thank you.
