Hare coursing is an atrocious and inhumane practice that is still taking place in Ireland today. Hare coursing involves capturing wild hares and letting them loose again in an enclosed area to be chased and terrorized by larger animals— usually dogs. When the hares are captured in the wild, they are thrown into holding cages where they must coexist with other hares and tolerate sub-par conditions.

Hare coursing is a competitive sport in Ireland and is conducted purely for entertainment. There is simply no good reason the hares should have to endure this kind of torture and terror. Sign the petition asking Irish Environmental Minister John Gormley to see that this cruel practice is put to rest once and for all.

Dear Minister John Gormley,

I find it appalling that Ireland is still conducting the cruel sport of hare coursing. It involves capturing innocent hares from the wild, subjecting them to abhorrent conditions in captivity, and then releasing them into an enclosed area to be chased down by dogs. This is the most inhumane practice I have ever heard of, and it needs to stop now.

During the act of hare coursing, the rabbits suffer grave physical and psychological injuries. Not only do they sustain painful wounds, they are also often so scared they die from the stress of the events.

This sport is on-par with dog fighting and should be outlawed completely. Please see to it that hare coursing is done away with forever. We can't stand by and let these poor animals continue to be tortured in this way.

Thank you for your consideration.
