Dear President Jerzy Buzek:

It's hard for me to believe that a barbaric sport such as jump horse racing is still allowed in Europe. After doing some research, I found that jump racing is often extremely harmful to horses who participate in it. During sporting events, horses are whipped into submitting to their trainers' directions. There is no statistical data that proves whipping helps improve performance; and even if so, whipping is a barbaric tactic that should never be utilized on a living being.

In addition to the treatment the horses receive from their trainers, the grueling routines of jump racing take enormous tolls on the horses' physical health. The obstacles and hurdles they are required to jump over cause them significant joint damage. The injuries increase if the jockey races his horse year-round.

Horses are not mechanical objects meant for human entertainment. It doesn't really matter how well a horse is taken care of outside of the track. A horse's mere participation in jump racing is no doubt a prescription for severe injuries, and eventually, early death.

Please do all that you can to ensure this savage, absurd sport is put to an end once and for all.
