Lead contamination resulting from the use of lead bullets and fishing sinkers is becoming a formidable pollution concern in the wilderness where they are used. These hunting tools are left behind by hunters and have very toxic effects on the surrounding environment. Animals and plant life are exposed to the dangerous metal and sustain deadly lead poisoning. Though unintentional, the consequences of the use of lead hunting products are far more compelling than the possible value.

Sign the petition asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to both require lead hunting alternatives and to ban the use of lead in hunting products altogether.

Dear Acting Director Rowan Gould,

The use of lead bullets and fishing sinkers by hunters in the wild is causing precious endangered wildlife to sustain deadly lead poisoning. This is completely unnecessary as there are many lead alternatives available within the hunting industry. Yet more and more condors, bald eagles, and herons are being exposed to the harmful substance and dying as a result.

Every year, tens of thousands of tons of lead seeps into the environment and endangers the surrounding plant and animal life. Lead has been banned in countless other products — and this law needs to extend to hunting materials as well.

Please see to it that lead bullets and sinkers are banned as viable hunting products and begin requiring lead alternatives.

Thank you for your time.
