Pet store puppies and kittens are hard to ignore. You go in to buy your regular bag of pet food, and right away you are greeted with fluffy, eager faces saying, "Take me home!"

Everyone loves those animals, but unfortunately animals in rescue centers and shelters are in much higher need. They're the ones who have been abused or neglected and who are at risk of euthanasia if no one adopts them.

But shelter animals are some of the most loving companions one can find. They're simply looking for a safe home where they will be loved and appreciated.

In order to find these animals homes, we need to create more awareness around the issue of shelter adoptions. H.R. 220 was created in hopes of establishing every first Saturday in October as National Animal Rescue Day.
