Goal: 30,000 Progress: 14,075

Several hundred geese were recently murdered in New York City as part of an ongoing effort to keep the geese away from major airport locations. The geese were cruelly captured and taken to a gas chamber where they suffered a slow and agonizing death by suffocation. Officials of the slaughter claim the geese present dangers to airborne aircraft, yet animal experts are saying the geese that were killed were low-flying local geese that could never have caused any type of harm to airplanes.

The USDA is conducting these mass murders and needs to be stopped immediately. There are humane ways to control potentially dangerous animal populations that don't involve exterminating large groups of innocent animals. The current tactics are unacceptable. Sign the petition telling the USDA to take responsibility for their actions and come up with a new plan for geese population control in New York City.

Dear Tom Vilsack, USDA administrator,

I simply cannot believe the horror that has taken place recently in New York City. It came to my attention that several hundred geese were carried off to a gas chamber and killed as part of an ongoing effort to control the population. I understand the need for airline safety, and I'm aware of the dangers that high-flying birds pose to jet engines and propellers.

There are a few problems with the way the government has handled the issue, however. First, the geese in question were local birds and didn't possess the ability to fly at the elevations that would make them dangerous to aircraft. Second, one with think that with expert knowledge on animal populations and control, a government agency would find a humane way to manage the problem. I am appalled at the manner in which the USDA has conducted itself regarding this issue.

Please CEASE AND DESIST your goose murder program and find better tactics to handle the issue of overpopulation. It's your responsibility to preserve all life, not just that of humans.

Thank you for your time.
