Following the local and online backlash protesting the ill-informed and short-sighted killings of Big Bend Ranch State Park's burros, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) ceased their reckless "shoot on sight" and teamed with the US Humane Society in pursuit of a nonlethal solution. The organization is conducting a survey of the remaining burro population and will present the TPWD with recommendations to move forward.

Wild burros in Texas need your help. The burros that roam Big Bend Ranch State Park are being killed because park officials say their existence is threatening the presence of bighorn sheep — animals that carry high rewards for big game hunters.

There is no logical basis for the killing of the wild burros. Hunters simply want to continue hunting the bighorn sheep in Big Bend and acquiring the hefty prize money for them.

Write to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department telling them their "population control" argument is unfounded and to stop needlessly killing wild burros immediately.

Dear Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Executive Director Carter Smith:

I am writing to oppose the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's policy of killing wild burros at Big Bend Ranch State Park. The argument that it's done to restore the big horn sheep population is completely misguided.

The fact is, the killing of the burros only serves hunters' interests; big horns carry large cash rewards for hunters. Killing the burros is solely fueled by selfish, financial reasons.

I am urging you to stop your cruel removal of the burros from their rightful home.

Sincerely,

Petition Signatures
