It's a widely accepted fact that service dogs can provide a great deal of assistance for individuals with physical or developmental disabilities.
New Jersey Senator David Norcross has introduced a bill that would allow children with autism-related disorders to use medically-approved dogs in schools.
Children with autism can at times experience anxiety and other obstacles when it comes to socializing with their peers. Service dogs can produce a calming impact and help children adjust more naturally to their environment at school.
S. 1797 passed in the State Senate and now it goes to the State Assembly for final approval. Write to New Jersey Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver asking her to give her final approval for S. 1797. Let's take a step toward helping children with autism succeed in school.
Dear Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver,
Children with autism and autism-related disorders can often meet difficulties being able to socialize and interact normally in school. They can have trouble coping with changes in routines and often encounter difficulty concentrating on one subject at once.
Trained service dogs can help children with autism adjust and relate more naturally to their school environment. These dogs are able to help children cope with stressful social situations, locate their children when lost or out of sight, and intervene when the child is engaging in repetitive behavior that might trigger unwanted responses.
Service dogs have proven to truly help children be able to cope with the everyday difficulties of autism-related disorders and function in their environments as normally as possible. New Jersey Senator David Norcross has introduced a bill that would allow children with autism-related disorders to use medically-approved dogs in schools. S. 1797 passed in the State Senate and now it goes to the State Assembly for final approval.
I am writing to ask that you give the final approval on S. 1797 so that children with autism have the best possible chance to succeed in school and beyond.
Sincerely,
