ACS Kohl's Breast Cancer provides education and screening

The American Cancer Society Kohl's Breast Cancer Initiative is aiming to provide education as well as screening for African-American and Hispanic women in Milwaukee, according to a new report from the Milwaukee Courier Online.

The program will specifically aim to help women between the ages of 35 and 64 years old. Many of these women may have never been screened for breast cancer before, making it impossible for them to know if they have the illness that affects one out of every eight women in the U.S., according to the ACS.

Earlier in May, the American Cancer Society held a Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk in Milwaukee, bringing people together to raise awareness for the disease.

More than 200,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year, reports the ACS. All women over the age of 40 should receive yearly mammograms, and younger women should have regular clinic exams as well as self breast-exams.
