Artisans create He and She rag dolls for Haitian children.

A Haitian artisan group recently created "He and She rag dolls" that have become popular with local children. Purchase of these dolls by Partners in Health not only provides much needed funds for the artisans and their families, but also brings smiles to young patients.

Haitian children with dollsThe January earthquake has left many children in Haiti homeless or living in destitute circumstances. Toys are a luxury that most families cannot afford. The recent outbreak of cholera also has filled local hospitals and clinics with children who have nothing to distract them from their misery.

So PIH began making gifts of the dolls to their youngest patients. Now, the handmade dolls will be provided to every child being discharged from one of PIH's hospitals or health clinics, as well as children who are seen at three clinics run by Partners In Health in the displaced persons' camps in and around Port Au Prince. has supported this charitable partner's efforts to help Haitian children for many years.'s donations to PIH's earthquake relief efforts, other work in Haiti, and aid to children worldwide has exceeded $380,000 so far in 2010.
