Exercise after breast cancer recovery is vital, experts say

While undergoing treatment for breast cancer can be draining, experts recommend that women get back on their feet as soon possible. Now, a new study has shown once again that maintaining a regular fitness routine can prevent a recurrence of the disease as well as dramatically improve a patient's quality of life, according to

The research was conducted at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia, led by principal investigator Annabel Pollard.

"Enabling cancer survivors to recover or improve their health after cancer treatment is perhaps as important as treating the disease," Pollard said. "Cancer survivors are often motivated to have a healthier lifestyle, but many do not carry out their good intentions."

Pollard's program recommends women increase their quantity of exercise over the course of 12 weeks.

While exercise is certainly beneficial after a breast cancer diagnosis, it may also prevent one as well. Experts maintain that those who work out regularly are at less of a risk of having the disease.
