Feeding America's research into hunger in the United States led to Map The Meal Gap that allows everyone to see the greatest areas of need. As the map shows, hunger touches every state, with more than 50 million Americans food insecure, including 1 in 4 children. The number of food-insecure seniors is expected to increase by fifty percent by the year 2025, when the youngest of the Baby Boom generation reaches age sixty.
GreaterGood.org supports Feeding America's expanding efforts to combat hunger in America through the Gifts That Give More [tm] program.
"On behalf of Feeding America, I would like to congratulate The Hunger Site for their 12 years of exceptional commitment to helping those who are less fortunate," said Vicki Escarra, President and CEO of Feeding America. "It is because of partners like The Hunger Site that we are able to reach more people facing hunger each year."
In recent years, Feeding America has seen an escalating demand for emergency food relief across the country. They have responded with a 30% increase year over year in food distribution. For children, they provided 37 million meals in 2010 through Kids Cafe, summer food programs, BackPack, snack and school pantry programs.
Currently, they are working at providing greater access to fresh produce through their network of food banks.
