I found the lump myself and asked my doctor to check it out. He said it was probably nothing, but made me an appointment to get an ultrasound and mammogram. After spending the good part of the day there, the doctor came in and said they wanted to do a needle biopsy.

After finding a lump, I was in shock for about 20 minutes. I had places to go, people to see, and things to do. I had three weeks before I was to see my son graduate from the Marine Corps and nothing was going to stop me. Ten days post-op, I was on the plane. It has been 3 1/2 years and I'm okay—more than okay—thanks to my terrific surgeon and awesome oncologist.

No family history, I was young... these fatty little knots happen sometimes. My cancer metastasized to my lungs, lymph nodes, and one kidney. To this day I am still fighting.
