Eva Ekvall, who was the former Miss Venezuela, recently died of breast cancer at the very young age of 28, according to The Associated Press.

Ekvall lived in Houston, Texas, with her family, and died in nearby hospital after a long battle with the disease. She was crowned Miss Venezuela in 2000 at 17 years old and was 18 when she third runner-up for Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico. She was a model, actress and a television news anchor.

Those who are interested in her life of success and her battle with the disease can purchase her book, "Out of Focus," which describes her life with cancer, according to the news source.

Ekvall was married to a radio producer, John Fabio Bermudez, and they have a 2-year-old daughter, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Cancer Society, this disease is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer. However, the death rate has been decreasing since 1990 due to advancements in research and breakthrough breast cancer news. There are currently 2.5 million survivors in the U.S.
