Limiting carbs can get rid of some risk factors

It was recently reported that if a person limits their carbohydrate intake only twice a week, they may be able to mitigate some of the risk factors for breast cancer by burning fat and improving insulin sensitivity, according to MedPage Today.

The researchers discovered that by limiting the intake, the subjects were able to lose weight and lower insulin levels, which are both risk factors of the disease.

"Both diets showed improvement in insulin sensitivity, compared with a regular calorie-restriction diet alone," Dr. Michelle Harvie of Genesis Prevention Center at University Hospital in South Manchester, UK, told the news source. "It's an interesting finding, but we need more research. This isn't ready to be recommended to patients yet."

According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, it is recommended that once a woman turns 40 she schedules an annual mammogram. Those who have an extensive family history of the disease may want to start making these appointments earlier, as a family history is known for being a risk factor of the disease.
