Musiq Soulchild uses new video to promote breast cancer awareness

Rapper/R&B singer Musiq Soulchild is using his celebrity to help raise breast cancer awareness. He has just been named the new ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure Circle of Promise, reports.

Soulchild's new video for his song "YES" depicts him as a man who is supporting his girlfriend as she undergoes the procedures that come with battling the disease.

Furthermore, a group of real survivors wearing T-shirts, pins and pink ribbons, the color of breast cancer awareness, are in one scene during the video, the website reports.

"Early detection is the key to winning the fight against breast cancer," Soulchild told the news outlet. "Too often, black women are diagnosed in stage three and four when breast cancer is most difficult to treat. Some women are afraid to seek treatment for fear of losing their breasts or their hair. One’s physical appearance is much less important than the will to live. It’s time to remove the stigmas that are attached to this disease."

Raising awareness and removing stigmas is key to improving survival rates. According to, 207,090 new cases of breast cancer are set to be diagnosed this year.
