New Jersey salon pinks out the locals

Essentials Salon in Mercerville, New Jersey has donated $2,000 to the YWCA Princeton's Breast Cancer Resource Center, according to MercerSpace.com.

Throughout the month of October, the staff at Essentials Salon used pink locks to spread breast cancer awareness. The staff fused the pink hair to local sports teams, college students and mothers and daughters of breast cancer survivors.

Along with this public awareness initiative, the salon's donation will go to help the YWCA Princeton Breast Cancer Resource Center which provides information and support programs to breast cancer patients, counseling, mind/body wellness classes and a myriad of activities to help patients fight the deadly disease.

Essentials Salon requested that their donation be used to provide wigs to local breast cancer patients to ease the pain of hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment. Essentials hopes to expand their breast cancer awareness program in the coming year and will continue to support the great work of the YWCA.

According to the American Cancer Society, 2.5 million breast cancer survivors are currently living in the United States.
