Oklahoma firefighters raise $17,000 for breast cancer

Firefighters from Tulsa, Oklahoma, have raised $17,000 for the charity Oklahoma Project Woman from the sale of pink t-shirts during their Cares Enough to Wear Pink fundraiser, according to Oklahoma's KTUL.

The firefighters from Local 176 of the Professional Firefighters of Oklahoma passed a resolution during the past year to host their own Cares Enough to Wear Pink campaign. The firefighters sold pink t-shirts that they designed themselves, with one half of the proceeds going to the Fire Fighters Cancer Support Network and the rest going to Oklahoma Project Woman.

The firefighters' went the extra mile by wrapping their fire engine in pink vinyl in an inspiring show of support. The firefighters wore their self-designed shirts for three days during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Local 176 chose Oklahoma Project Woman to assist in their endeavors in helping breast cancer patients and their families in Oklahoma. The charity along with its umbrella organization, Project Woman Coalition, strives to fulfill its mission statement to increase breast cancer awareness, provide access to screening and diagnostic services and to improve the breast health of Oklahoma women, according to their website.
