SitStayRead children write about their experience

Story by SitStayRead 2nd graderTwenty-five Hendricks School second graders in Chicago participated in the year-long SitStayRead program fully underwritten by GreaterGood.org in 2010/11 school year. Additional funding from GreaterGood.org made possible 267 reading sessions with a dog via Happy Tales for Wagging Tails and helped defray the general operating costs of the SitStayRead program.

At-risk children from the neediest neighborhoods in Chicago received loving canine attention as they participated in reading sessions with the SitStayRead dogs, enjoyed classroom visits from guest readers, and created their own books. At the end of the school year, SitStayRead provided participating children with school supplies and books to help them keep up their skills during the summer vacation.

Budding authors like Raniesha Darring created their own books about the experience. Darring called hers "My Favorite Thing Is To Pet A Dog."

GreaterGood.org's grants to SitStayRead were made possible by a donation from The Economist Group, contributions from The Literacy Site, and the Gifts That Give More [tm] program.
