Women in the UK at high risk for breast cancer

Those living in the United Kingdom should take note - according to recent reports, British women may be four times more at risk to be diagnosed with breast cancer than women living in Eastern Africa, according to The Press Association.

These startling statistics, which were collected from the World Health Organization, are attributed to certain lifestyle habits. This includes overeating, too much drinking and not getting enough exercise.

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has maintained that these results may be due to the fact that doctors in the United Kingdom could be better at diagnosing the disease. However, Dr Rachel Thompson, deputy head of science for the WCRF, has emphasized that people should not discount the data.

"The fact that breast cancer rates in Eastern Africa are so much lower than in the UK is a stark reminder that, every year in this country, thousands of women are diagnosed with a case of cancer that could have been prevented," Thompson said.

According to Cancer Research UK, breast cancer is the most common form of the disease in the United Kingdom.
