In an appearance on MSNBC's Meet the Press, House Majority Leader and republican Eric Cantor suggested that federal spending — most alarmingly, that which goes toward cancer research — should be seriously cut. When questioned about what, exactly, Congress would be willing to cut, and if cancer research was being considered, Cantor's exact words were, "Every dollar should be on the table."

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death and sickness in America, and yet, the House Majority Leader isn't refuting that it should be cut. Now is not the time to deter from crucial research that could eventually produce a cure for cancer. Now is the time to stand in solidarity, even more than before, and tell our government we won't stand for this.

Sign the petition telling Eric Cantor that no matter what situation our economy is in, we will not allow him to cut out such a critical part of the search for a cure.

Dear Eric Cantor:

I take great issue with your implications about cancer research from your appearance on MSNBC's Meet the Press. In the interview, you were asked a series of questions pertaining to proposed budgetary cuts that may occur this year. When questioned about several different programs, and if they would be affected, you replied, "Every dollar should be on the table." When pressed further, and asked if cancer research could be grouped under this plan, you reiterated that no area is safe from being cut.

I am writing to urge you to take cancer research off of the table as an area that can be cut from the federal budget. Because so many people still suffer from cancer here in America, we cannot afford to cease researching and fighting for a cure.

I understand the financial needs of our country, but the health of its citizens must take priority. And as one of our representatives, you have a moral obligation to honor that. Please don't relinquish this important responsibility.

Thank you for your time.
