The government has been caught playing into the hands of special interests rather than acting on what would be the good of the whole.

After the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed through research that emergency contraception is safe for over the counter sales, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stepped in and projected her own personal feelings on the matter in a final judgment.

In a first-time-ever overruling of an FDA decision, Secretary Sebelius ignored scientific evidence and prohibited the sale of emergency contraception over the counter.

Regardless of personal opinions, Secretary Sebelius ignored the research and ruling based on political interests. The fact is, Sebelius is not a doctor, and those at the FDA are qualified to make such findings.

Tell Kathleen Sebelius to stop putting women and girls in danger by disregarding science and acting in her own political interests.

Dear Secretary Sebelius,

I am very disappointed in your recent ruling to prohibit emergency contraception sales over the counter.

The fact is, you overruled scientific evidence researched by FDA doctors and decided based on your own political interests. You are not a doctor and therefore do not possess the necessary knowledge, research, or resources to make such a decision.

Regardless of anyone's personal feelings about emergency contraception, ignoring professionally tested medical theories is a foolish practice. You need to consider all of the facts before making a sweeping decision such as this. Please do your job representing your constituency by acting in good faith and yielding to the professionals on the issue of emergency contraception.

Thank you.
