The super committee that was tasked to produce a plan for national debt reduction could not come up with a solution that met both parties' satisfaction. Because of Congress' inability to come to an agreement, automatic cuts to the federal budget are set to kick in in 2013 — and that's not in anyone's best interest.
The 2013 cuts were designed as a motivator for the super committee to reach a goal, and therefore will be intentionally acute. Programs like Medicare and Medicaid are especially at risk during this time of financial uncertainty. Our grandparents' health care hangs in the balance, all because Congress can't move past partisan politics.
Don't let Congress' inefficacy jeopardize Grandma and Grandpa's health!
Dear President Obama,
I am writing to you today because you may be the last hope for our grandparents.
As you know, the super committee that was appointed to come up with a debt reduction plan for America was not able to put partisan politics aside and come to an agreement. This could mean disaster for our elderly Americans.
Automatic cuts are set to begin in 2013 as a punishment for Congress' inefficacy — these cuts were designed to be acute so as to motivate Congress to reach a solution. Since Congress hasn't delivered, these automatic cuts now threaten countless critical programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.
You are the last line of hope. Congress cannot aptly represent its constituency, so it's now your job to make sure vital programs stay in place. Please do not allow our grandparents' health to be put on the chopping block.
Thank you for your time.
