Goal: 10,000 Progress: 4,172

In late 2011, a super committee put together by Congress attempted to address spending and reduce the nation's debt. In this vein Congress members were tasked to decide what programs to keep and which ones to cut. They didn't reach a decision, so at this point, nothing is safe from being removed from the federal budget.

That's why we need to speak up and tell Congress that funding for cancer research should not be an option to cut. Millions of people are victims of cancer each year and we simply cannot scale back the research and effort needed to find a cure.

Dear Congress,

I am writing to ask that while you are deciding upon which programs and funds to cut from the federal budget, you leave cancer research off of the table.

Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in America, with hundreds of thousands of people dying of cancer per year. And cancer isn't selective — husbands lose their wives, children lose their parents, and worse, parents lose their children to this destructive disease every day.

We can't stand by idly while cancer continues to take our loved ones from us. Please make sure that while you attempt to reduce the national debt you do not stop fighting for life.

Thank you.
