My journey with Breast Cancer started in January 2012. I felt a lump in my left breast that didn't feel right and after a visit to my GP she recommended I go and get it checked out with a mammogram. I celebrated my 48th birthday in January and although I am very healthy (never smoked, always ate healthily and exercised as much as I could, I had a sneaky suspicion that the lump was sinister... February 9th 2012 was told I have breast cancer! Tears rolled down my face and my partner tried to hold it together also and all I could think about was my 17 tear old daughter and my 22 year old son how to break the news to them! My diagnosis was Grade 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with 55mm DCIS. After 4 months of chemo my plan was to have mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction which was performed on Aug 6 and am in the middle of recovery. I've yet to discuss radiotherapy however I do know I will be put on SUPREMO trial and hope that goes well. As my breast cancer was heavily estrogen fed I will be prescribed Tamoxifen which is the gold standard in keeping cancer at bay.

The journey has been tough however with the love and great support of my partner, my kids and family plus my close friends it's a war I'm winning. I send a message of hope and positivity to all those who are fighting the same battle...
