Type 1 Mike Lawson has never let his diabetes diagnosis take his spirits down. Unfortunately misdiagnosed as a type 2 diabetic at first, Mike tried his hardest to manage his diabetes, but realized there was something wrong. Going back for a second opinion, Mike was finally diagnosed properly as a type 1 diabetic.

Do you know what Metformin is? Metformin is a widely used drug prescribed to people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is caused by a poor diet and lack of exercise. Type 2 diabetes is a growing disease and is affecting individuals no matter what age, weight, gender, or race they are. With type 2 comes risks such as vision loss, heart and blood vessel disease, kidney damage, and nerve damage. In particular neuropathy (nerve damage) makes the smallest annoyances lead to more serious health issues such as amputation. Nothing puts diabetics in the hospital more than neuropathy.

Type 2 Ben Gray learned how to manage his diabetes the hard way. He now wishes that he had made a 180 degree change towards a healthier life when he was first diagnosed. Today he goes through dialysis three times a week for 3 to 4 hours each day. When type 2 diabetics go through dialysis about 80 to 90% of their kidneys are not functioning anymore and they need the assistance of dialysis to keep going.
