Goal: 20,000 Progress: 6,272
Sponsored by: StudentsFirst

America's schools are failing our kids. On international comparisons, U.S. kids are in the middle of the pack or worse. Fixing the problem requires an education system that puts students' needs ahead of special interests or wasteful bureaucracies.

To succeed in our mission, we are demanding that lawmakers, courts and school administrators create and enforce policies that put students first. No school-based factor is more important than the quality of the teacher. We must recognize, reward and retain excellent educators. We also want to ensure families can choose among several excellent schools, not just get stuck with one underperforming choice. Americans know, and we want to remind them, that our schools are an anchor for our communities and gateway to our national prosperity and competitive standing in a global economy. If you agree, sign the pledge and join us in our fight.

The movement begins with you. We want to truly transform education in America, to create a system that puts students' needs first.

We believe:

· Great teachers can make a tremendous difference for students of every background; all children deserve great teachers.
· Students should not need luck to get a good education; every family should be able to choose an excellent school.
· Public dollars belong where they can make the biggest difference; we must fight ineffective programs and bureaucracy.

May 13, 2013 (Name not displayed) It's time we put our student's needs first. This country isn't doing what we should. I fear we are undermining our own national interest, as our children continue to receive the perpetually declining quality of education we now offer.

Apr 17, 2013 Cheryl Langford This is one of the most important things we can give to our children-a good education. The education we do give must compete with other countries that are far ahead of us in science. We must let our children be competitive in the world.

Apr 10, 2013 Suzanne Steyn Please look at South Africa. We had one of the best education systems and highest pass rates. Now, our teachers strike for money, the learning material does not arrive on time, drugs and weapons r everywhere and the student comes last. What a waste.

Apr 7, 2013 Juliana Walsh I have been a teacher for 18 years and each year I see a decrease in student achievement. I find this is due to government changes and laws that people think sound great, but in reality are harmful.
