Many of us expressed our disgust with The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and The Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Acts (PIPA) — two bills that would have taken away much of our creative freedom on the Internet. Those bills were shelved indefinitely.

But a new bill — The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) — is threatening our rights to free speech once again. CISPA would allow the government many different options to ensure the security of networks against attacks and enforce copyright.

But what does this mean? CISPA doesn't seem to know either, as the legislation contains few limits on how the government may use our private information. Does the name "Big Brother" come to mind?

Sign our petition letting Congress know you do not support CISPA and the government's attempts to take away our First Amendment rights.

Dear Congress members,

I am very concerned about a proposed bill that is currently languishing in committee. CISPA, or The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, is a piece of legislation that would severely limit free speech rights on the Internet. Formed in the wake of the notorious SOPA and PIPA bills, CISPA seems to threaten our First Amendment rights just as vehemently, if not more. For example, CISPA doesn't even address the lengths to which the government will be able to go in order to access our personal information.

This bill is a bad idea all around. Reporters Without Borders, an organization that lobbies for freedom of the press, says of the bill, "In the name of the war on cyber crime, it would allow the government and private companies to deploy draconian measures to monitor, even censor, the Web. It might even be used to close down sites that publish classified files or information."

Many of today's most innovative products, ideas, and advancements were born as a result of collaboration via the Internet. To take freedom of speech on the web away would be to stifle progress as a human race.

When it comes time, VOTE NO ON CISPA!
