For much of the population of Africa, farming is a vital way of life and the sole means of survival. A large part of Africa's commerce depends on its agricultural resources, and as a result on the dedication of African farmers. However, farmers in Africa are severely lacking the supplies and abilities that allow them to properly care for their crops. African families and villages are suffering greatly.
The Global Food Security Act (S. 384) of 2009 took aim at the issue of international food security, and, if passed, would have provided assistance to villages in Africa that are suffering from a lack of resources. It would have also helped to stimulate foreign economies that are based on agriculture and farming.
S. 384 is sadly no longer being considered, but we still need important legislation addressing this cause. Ask Congress to support international food security by promoting worldwide hunger elimination.
Dear Decision Maker:
Many rural African nations are suffering right now due to a lack of resources that would allow them to farm and harvest crops effectively. The sinking world economy has taken a toll on farmers' abilities to produce food and products that would help sustain their families and villages. These are individuals who are deeply dedicated to their livelihood, yet they cannot afford the tools necessary to carry it out.
The Global Food Security Act (S. 384) of 2009 would have provided the much needed assistance to African farmers, allowing them to procure the instruments and aid required to produce their crops and other goods. It would have also helped to stimulate rural economies that are experiencing famine or other food crises.
I am writing to ask that you support a new version the Global Food Security Act and urge your colleagues to do so as well. We need all the help we can get to ensure agricultural economies survive times of shortage and scarcity.
Thank you for your consideration.
