The Alaskan Tongass forest is a mystical place that's home to babbling brooks and precious animal habitats. It's one of the few untouched parts of nature that should remain wild and free of development. But the Sealaska Native Corporation, a private institution, is threatening to take ownership of close to 70,000 acres of the Tongass. If this happens, Sealaska will be free to do what it pleases with the land.

The Southeast Alaska Native Land Entitlement Finalization Act (S. 881), if passed, would grant this land to the Sealaska Native Corporation. Write to the chairman of the United States committee on Energy and Natural Resources voicing your opposition to S. 881. We can't afford to privatize the Tongass and risk losing one of the most pristine forests left.

Dear Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Ron Wyden:

I am writing to voice my concern over The Southeast Alaska Native Land Entitlement Finalization Act (S. 881), and its possible implications for the future of the Tongass forest. If passed, S. 881 would grant 70,000 acres of the Tongass to the Sealaska Native Corporation. We need to keep this land public so that no private institution has the ability to interfere with its animal habitats, plant growth, and pristine water bodies.

The Tongass forest is just one of few national parks that is still untouched by modern industry or human development. Putting it into the hands of a private corporation would threaten the future well-being of the forest and the life that inhabits it.

Please oppose S. 881 and encourage your colleagues to do the same. We need to take steps toward preserving the precious flora and fauna we have left on this planet.

Thanks for your time.
