Goal: 30,000 Progress: 6,977
Sponsored by: The Rainforest Site

Four years ago, California passed a clean air law that provides for significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. The Global Warming Solutions Act, passed in 2006, is now under fire from leading oil companies whose interests only have to do with profit. In fact, Proposition 23, a measure that would keep California addicted to oil, has been largely funded by these greedy oil giants.

With all of the environmental disasters that have taken place recently, we need to begin focusing our efforts on weaning ourselves off of oil and researching into alternatives that won't further pollute our earth. Though we have made significant strides toward this goal, big oil is threatening to keep us addicted.

Sign the petition asking the heads of oil giants such as Valero and BP to stop promoting dirty energy and increased oil use during a time when we cannot afford to continue to destroy our planet.

Dear BP and Valero Executives,

I am writing to ask that you cease your efforts to keep Americans addicted to oil. As prominent figures in the industry, I know you're aware of the environmental implications our dependence on oil has had. Just take a look at the recent oil spills in the Gulf. Thousands of wildlife perished and many people's livelihoods were destroyed as a result. Some say the Gulf may never recover from this disaster.

Yet, catastrophes like this can be avoided if we simply rearrange our priorities. Yours lie with profit, yet your success means the destruction of the environment and precious wildlife. This destruction will eventually render our planet unlivable. But you continue to promote flawed ideals and convince Americans they need oil.

Please stop promoting ideas that are sabotaging our planet and begin advocating for clean energy.

Thank you for considering my comments.
