Alaska's beautiful Bristol Bay is a pristine ecosystem that is home to such wildlife as the sockeye salmon, grizzly bear, and the orca whale. Bristol Bay is also home for many Native American peoples — and these natives depend on the natural resources the bay has to offer in order to survive.
Up until recently, Bristol Bay has been untouched by the hands of industrialization. But all that could change if mining companies are allowed to begin mining the Pebble Mine — a gold and copper deposit site that sits in the middle of Bristol Bay.
If these mining companies succeed in taking over the Pebble Mine, Bristol Bay's whole ecosystem will be threatened by severe mining waste, wildlife habitat destruction, power plants, and more.
We must save Bristol Bay and keep Pebble Mine out of mining companies' hands. Sign the petition now!
Dear EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson,
I am deeply concerned about the potential mining plans that could move forward at the Pebble Mine in the heart of Alaska's Bristol Bay.
Foreign mining companies would like to establish a mining site at Pebble Mine in order to tap it for its gold and copper deposits. But this move could threaten Bristol Bay's entire ecosystem.
The mine would require a power plant, dams that could release toxic mining waste into the water and soil, and billions of gallons of water per year. Bristol Bay would be a mining hub and the wildlife would have no choice but to simply make room.
The risks of an endeavor such as this outweigh the potential benefits. We must do all we can to preserve this pristine environment instead of cater to commercial interests. Please help save Bristol Bay.
Thank you for your time.
