Canada's Boreal Forest is the world's largest wetlands region, and contains countless species of plants and animals. Wolves, caribou, and birds alike make their homes in the Boreal Forest.
But potential oil and gas projects in the region would threaten the survival of many of these species as well as millions of Americans' drinking water. The Boreal Forest sits on top of a massive tar sand deposit from which oil companies would like to begin extracting if they get their way. The project would create a pipeline called Keystone XL.
The tar sands oil is highly toxic and would be transported through the Keystone XL from Canada to Texas, threatening the safety of both animals and humans. And it's all up to the State Department as to whether the Keystone XL will move forward.
Write to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asking her to choose animal survival and human safety over profit from a potentially deadly oil pipeline.
Dear Secretary Clinton,
Canada's Boreal Forest, its plant and animal species, and humans in the surrounding areas are all at risk due to potential plans to build an oil pipeline in the forest called the Keystone XL. Underneath the Boreal Forest is an expansive region of tar sands — it's some of the most toxic oil in the world, and yet, plans for the pipeline are still intact.
It's now up to the State Department to decide the future of the Boreal Forest. That's why I'm writing to you to ask that you halt the plans for the Keystone XL. Countless species of plants and animals are counting on you to ensure their survival. You have the power to keep the Boreal Forest pristine and untouched by further industrialization.
Please use your influence to see that Canada's Boreal Forest remains safe from potentially disastrous oil projects such as the Keystone XL.
Thank you for your time.
