For all of the advancements that have been made in the realm of environmental sustainability, the automobile industry practically runs in reverse when it comes to the green movement. It's time to shift gears and speed ahead Automobiles cause some of the most destructive environmental devastation, and are responsible for much of the greenhouse gas emissions that gravely threaten our environment today.

Our addiction to oil is causing our own demise. But there are steps we can take to limit the effects we are having on our earth. We need to create stricter standards for vehicles. One such way is to require a higher mile per gallon rule for all new cars.

Tell President Obama to enact legislation that would require all automobiles to meet a 60-mile-per-gallon standard so that we may begin to slowly release ourselves from this dirty dependency.

Dear President Obama,

I know you're aware of the dangers that automobiles are posing to the future of our environment. Every year, ice caps are melting, the ozone layer is depleting, and thousands of people are becoming sick due to the pollution that carbon emissions create. Yet, the auto industry is still allowed to produce gas-guzzling models that only reinforce our oil addiction.

With all of the advancements that have been made in the field of environmental conservation, I'm appalled as to why there aren't higher standards when it comes to making cars run longer on less fuel.

There are perfectly sound oil and gas alternatives, yet it seems that both the auto industry has been slow to move in creating clean-running vehicles.

We need to make our vehicles more efficient while we come up with ideas that will one day be able to replace oil altogether. I am writing to ask that you propose legislation that would require ALL automobiles to meet a 60-mile-per-gallon emission standard.

Thank you for your time.
