Paper and plastic bags are among the deadliest offenders when it comes to environmental pollution. These polluters seem to have even become part of our daily lives, used for countless miscellaneous tasks. But while paper and plastic bags are sometimes reused, their production and their ultimate destination create alarming consequences for our environment.

For example, hundreds of thousands of plastic bags per year cause deaths among marine mammals who mistake the bags for food. The production of plastic bags emits astonishing amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, while the production of paper bags means the destruction of millions of trees per year.

Eliminating paper and plastic altogether isn't realistic just yet. But we can take steps to work toward a cleaner planet by taking reusable bags with us to the grocery store. Sign the petition below pledging to bring at least one reusable bag each time you take a trip to the supermarket.
