Will we ever see an end to oil spills? If it's up to Shell, the answer is no. In Nigeria, Shell is responsible for multiple oil spills that have caused grave health problems and poisoned drinking water. Spills that occurred years ago are still wreaking havoc on the local Nigerian communities.

Not only is Shell responsible for this destruction, the company has reportedly lied about the extent of its culpability in the matter, claiming it always works under the safest of conditions. Though Shell is more than aware of its fault, it continues to operate pipelines and allow the spills to continue.

When will we stop allowing Shell to poison our environment and people's livelihoods?

Write to President Obama asking him to sanction Shell, requiring it to restore the environments it has ruined and to compensate those who the spills have affected. We must hold Shell responsible for its destructive, profit-motivated actions.

Dear President Obama,

I am writing to you because I feel you are our last hope at bringing major oil companies under control. It's no secret that oil spills continue to plague the world, and careless and selfish actions on the part of these firms are to blame.

Shell's flagrant disregard for human, animal, and plant life is highlighted by the ongoing oil spills that are happening in Nigeria at the hands of the company. Shell is responsible for multiple spills there, and yet no one is doing anything about it.

Shell needs to be sanctioned and punished. The company cannot possibly be allowed to do business this way. The people in Nigeria are suffering because of careless mistakes made by a money-motivated oil conglomerate.

Please do what you can to see that Shell compensates the Nigerian people and that it MUST adopt safer practices if it wishes to continue doing business.

Thank you for your help in this matter.
