Millions of acres of land have been set aside for solar energy facilities and developments in a stretch of the Southwest, yet so far not one solar enterprise has begun there. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the owner of the property, currently holds applications from companies that wish to build solar projects, but none of these applications have been approved yet.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of oil and gas applications were approved in the past few years. The BLM isn't taking steps to ensure that more clean energy facilities are built, and is instead catering to big oil. Sign the petition telling BLM Director Bob Abbey to play fair and begin accepting solar proposal applications. It's in the best interest of our environment and the future of our earth.
Dear Director Bob Abbey,
In the wake of the recent oil spills, and with global warming currently an issue of great concern, I am writing to ask that your agency begin to accept applications for solar energy facilities to be built on your property in the Southwest. This land was set aside specifically for solar projects, but so far only oil and gas projects have been approved.
We need to support the development of clean energy projects if we want to move toward independence from oil and gas. Please begin approving solar leases and stop catering to the big oil industry.
Sincerely,
