A Helping Spouse And The Power of Love to Heal

This is a powerful video of a wife speaking about her Vietnam veteran husband's struggles to recover from the debilitating effects of PTSD.  Her love and understanding, as well as that of fellow veterans brought him to recognize his need for help.

It is difficult, you can hear that in her story. But getting him to see his need for help and going to the VA has made a transformation in him and in their marriage that is priceless.  We have heard the aphorism, "Freedom isn't free."  That is true, of course, but as so many of us veterans know by experience, happiness isn't free either.  It takes a lot of courage and hard work to reclaim the possibilities and the gift of happiness after what we have been through.

There is an old Medieval chivalric idea that says, "Love conquers all."  We are often hard to deal with through our addictions, our angers and frustrations.  To have a spouse who can still love us through these things with patient endurance, precisely because she, or he sees the real, good, and lovable person behind the PTSD, is a true miracle of love.

We here at the Veterans Site send our respectful thanks out to all of you spouses who have loved us back to health.  We could not have done it without you.
