Veteran suicide is a serious problem. Latest reports reveal that more service members take their own lives, than the lives lost in combat. We need to step-up and help our brave men and women get through their PTSD and depression. We need to give back to those who gave all to protect us.

Our troops have all sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country and we thank them all for their bravery. Listen as US Army Major J Billington performs a song he has written in honor of the sacrifices Vietnam veterans have made. The song is called, "The Eagle Cried," and is dedicated to those who did not receive the hero's welcome they all deserved during their homecoming back from the fight.

We honor the many soldiers who go out and sacrifice the time they could be spending with their families along with their lives as they fight for our country out on the forefront. But we need to remember how much we need to honor and support these brave heroes after they come home from war to prevent homelessness, suicides, PTSD, and TBI that is growing amongst this population.

Frank Buckles passed away last year after reaching the ripe age of 110. He received the title of being the last surviving veteran of WWI.

Two stories have been dominating the news prior to Veteran's Day this year: the tragic Fort Hood attacks, and the continued battle over healthcare reform. These important issues are more interrelated than it appears at first glance. Thirteen people, many of them soldiers, died at Ft. Hood; many others were injured. While Americans are mourning the victims, we must also take care of the members of our military that are still living. Unfortunately, quite a few soldiers who were honorably discharged are now suffering due to their ability to buy a health insurance plan.

This year, on the OWN Network, Oprah is sharing her favorites with military spouses, saying “There’s nobody in the world more deserving of a day like you’re about to have.”

As of late there has been a great deal of focus on veterans with mental illness. More and more vets have been reported having symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The latest research is now finding that veterans with PTSD suffer more medical illnesses than do those with no mental health condition.
