This is a story that needs to be told. It is not easy to write about. But imagine how much harder it is for these military women who have been through this to even talk about it. That rape happens to these women is truly troubling, but their stories need to be told, so that the military and the VA can respond to it more readily and more respectfully than they have in the past.

These U.S. Marines are pioneers. They giving a whole new meaning to the efforts that the Marine Corps can bring to its efforts in Afghanistan. These women are making contact with the locals in ways that fighting units are not able to do and are not trained for. This is a very special unit with a very special mission.

These words are simple, yet strong. They offer a picture of the ethics and the commitment that our soldiers learn and appropriate to themselves through their training. These are noble ideals and we can see that they are the product of common sense and an awareness of what a soldier commits his or her life to in service of a higher cause than their individual selves.

On July 27, 2012, Republican Senator Dean Heller of Nevada offered Senate Bill 3308 before the Veterans Affairs Committee. This is a very important effort to meet the growing needs of women veterans who are, for whatever reason, finding themselves temporarily homeless.
