In late October 2011, President Obama announced the end to the United States' war with Iraq. For our service members and their families, this news couldn't have come sooner — especially with the holidays right around the corner.

While we celebrate the end of this deadly and costly war, we must not forget about the services our soldiers have provided and the sacrifices they have made. The return of the troops isn't a reason to stop advocating for them; rather, now more than ever is the time to improve veteran benefits and lobby on their behalf.

The war may be over, but its hardships are not.

Sign the petition urging President Obama to continue to fight on behalf of our Iraq veterans in the many years ahead.

Dear President Obama,

I would like to thank you tremendously for officially announcing the return of America's dedicated troops currently serving in Iraq. After eight long years, our soldiers can come home. It is truly a time to celebrate.

But right now is also a time when we need to be focusing on veteran care and benefits more than ever. Our troops fought through a perilous war, and as a result many of them will face wars of their own when they come home. We cannot allow them to suffer alone.

Please do not forget about the men and women who have kept America safe. They fought for us, and now it is time to fight for them.

Thank you.
