Goal: 20,000 Progress: 5,520

In February 2011 the Department of Veterans Affairs announced it would be scaling back the benefits that were to be offered to veterans' caregivers as outlined by the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act. The act would have provided training, counseling, and other services to family members of veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan to help their loved ones rehabilitate following deployment.

Senator Patty Murray, Chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, called out the VA, and stated her intentions to fight against the proposed regulations. Senator Murray said, "Unfortunately the plan they put forward today is simply not good enough. The VA outlined how they intended to limit this benefit to an even smaller group of caregivers than intended by Congress, which is unacceptable."

Dear Senator Murray:

I would like to personally thank you for your continued efforts to provide care for our veterans. Your dedication to America's heroes is honorable.

Recently, the Department of Veterans Affairs issued a statement that it was considering scaling back some of the stipulations outlined in the May 2010 Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act. This would mean that caregiver access to benefits and services would be severely limited.

The same day the statement was issued, you released your own statement of your disapproval of the proposal and your intentions to continue to fight for the cause of caring for our wounded soldiers.

I hope you will continue this important advocacy for America's veterans!
