Two of the biggest problems facing American veterans when they return home from service are homelessness and joblessness. It's important that we create opportunities for them and help them translate their skills into gainful employment. The 2011 Veterans Health Care Facilities Capital Improvement Act (H.R. 2646) passed in September 2011, and will make great strides toward providing veterans with the tools they need to succeed when they return from duty.

H.R. 2646 will restructure VA facilities to include job opportunities for veterans; provide additional funding for programs that help veterans find housing and support; allocate funding for homeless veteran programs; and reinstate the Veterans' Reintegration Program — an effort that helps homeless veterans find employment.

Dear Senator Johnson:

I applaud your efforts to pass The Veterans Health Care Facilities Capital Improvement Act of 2011 (H.R. 2646) in order to provide veterans with more comprehensive support and services when they return home from duty.

Coming home from months or years in the military can be a harsh reality for some veterans. For many, it's difficult to reassimilate back into society and get used to day-to-day away from such a rigid environment. And it can be hard to know where skills learned during service will translate in the real world.

It's important that we create opportunities that will suit both the needs and abilities of veterans who have served their country. That's why the passage of H.R. 2646 is so important. H.R. 2646 means veterans will have better access to better care and support, more resources for job placement and training, and additional assistance in housing.

Thank you for sponsoring this critical legislation!
